A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Grand Cherokee Overland/Summit helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Polestar 3 doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Grand Cherokee and the Polestar 3 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive, around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee achieved a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the 2024 model year. This recognition was based on its impressive performance in the small overlap frontal crash test, updated side impact crash test, headlight evaluations, and pedestrian crash prevention testing. The Polestar 3 has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

Jeep’s powertrain warranty covers the Grand Cherokee 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Polestar covers the 3. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the Polestar 3 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 77 times as many Jeep dealers as there are Polestar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Grand Cherokee’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jeep vehicles are better in initial quality than Polestar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jeep above average in initial quality. With 122 more problems per 100 vehicles, Polestar is rated below average.

The Grand Cherokee 4xe’s maximum EPA estimated range on a full tank and a full charge is 482 miles, after which it can be refueled at any gas station in minutes. The Polestar 3’s range is only 270 to 300 miles, after which the minimum time to recharge is 30 minutes for only an 80% charge at a specially configured quick charge station not available in most areas. A full recharge at a professionally installed 220-volt charging station can take up to 11 hours.

For better traction, the Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Polestar 3 (275/45R21 vs. 265/45R21).

The Grand Cherokee has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Polestar 3 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Grand Cherokee offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Polestar 3; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The Polestar 3 doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

For better maneuverability, the Grand Cherokee’s turning circle is .8 feet tighter than the Polestar 3’s (38 feet vs. 38.8 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Grand Cherokee has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Polestar 3 (8.4 vs. 8.3 inches), allowing the Grand Cherokee to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Air Suspension’s minimum ground clearance is 2.6 inches higher than on the Polestar 3 (10.9 vs. 8.3 inches).

The Jeep Grand Cherokee may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 to 1450 pounds less than the Polestar 3.

The front grille of the Grand Cherokee uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Polestar 3 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Grand Cherokee offers available computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Polestar 3 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Grand Cherokee has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Polestar 3 with its rear seat up (37.7 vs. 17.1 cubic feet). The Grand Cherokee has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Polestar 3 with its rear seat folded (70.8 vs. 50 cubic feet).

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Grand Cherokee to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Polestar 3 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Grand Cherokee’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Polestar 3’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the Grand Cherokee’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Polestar 3 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Grand Cherokee is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Polestar 3 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
